Lips
Permanent lip blush is a cutting-edge cosmetic procedure that has taken the beauty world by storm. Unlike traditional makeup that requires daily touch-ups, this technique offers a semi-permanent solution that can last for years. It involves the careful and skillful application of pigment to the lips, resulting in a soft, subtle tint that mimics the natural color of healthy lips. The effect is a perfectly balanced and enhanced pout that is both youthful and captivating.
Lips get lighter and less defined as time goes on and can give an appearance of being washed out. Lip PMU aims to restore and even out lip color and shape . Every lip is unique and picking the right color is very important. Your new PMU will require 2 sessions to complete 3-6 months apart and a colorboost every 2-4 years.

Lip Blush is a technique used to softly enhance the beauty of the natural lip color and define the borders of the lips. It will give a light wash of color to the lip the way way a tinted balm would (without being shiny)
Lipstick technique is a more opaque application of color all over the lip with a defined lip contour. This resembles the look of a lipstick more.

How to Prepare
How you prepare for your cosmetic tattoo will be what sets us up to having a successful appointment. Preparing the skin for treatment is particularly important for lips, as lips do not have any oil glands. Only very well exfoliated and hydrated lips can be worked on. Not following pre-care instructions can lead to rescheduling the appointment to avoid poor healed results.
Before your appointment: Please tell Joelle about any medication or supplements you are taking. These may affect the outcome of your procedure. Look over the after care instructions carefully and ensure that you can arrange your schedule accordingly, you may have swelling for 1-2 days. If you have previous permanent makeup of the lips, please send a clear, close up and well-lit picture of it. Please note that you will be more sensitive 5 days before, during and 5 days after your menstrual cycle.
1 month before: Do not get any chemical peels, laser or IPL treatments or use retinol, AHAs or hydrocortisone anywhere near the lips. No fillers in and around the lips.
2 weeks before: Do not take fish oil, Omegas or Vitamin E. No Botox in and around the lip area. NO unprotected exposure to UV rays or tanning beds.
1 week before: Avoid taking Vitamin D, Niacin (vitamin B3), Start making sure lips are consistently moisturized at all times.
5 days before: Your lips must be in ideal condition when you arrive, they must be soft, well hydrated and moisturized to ensure the best possible healed results. Please use a sugar scrub for 5 nights before your appointment, scrub your lips gently for 2-3 minutes then rinse with warm water. Next apply a thick moisturizing mask for 20 minutes (coconut oil, shea butter, Aquaphor or raw honey). Be sure to be well hydrated by drinking 8-10 glasses of water per day. Avoid wearing any lipstick or lip gloss as they tend to dry out the lips. If the lips are not in ideal condition, we will not be able to perform the treatment.
48 hours before: NO alcohol. No Ibuprophen or aspirin (unless medically necessary) as they thin the blood. Extra strength Tylenol can be taken if needed.
Day of treatment: NO coffee or caffeine. Avoid exercising the day of the treatment and please make sure to eat something before coming in for your appointment.
If you have ever had a cold sore please take your prescription anti-viral cold sore medication, 4 pills two days before, 4 pills the day before and 4 pills the day of the treatment, or as prescribed by your doctor or pharmacist. If you have an outbreak on the day of the treatment or for 4 weeks before, we will not be able to proceed.
DIY lip scrub: You can make your own sugar scrub by mixing 1 tablespoon of coconut oil and 1 tablespoon of organic honey, then add 2 tablespoons of brown sugar and ½ tablespoon of lukewarm water.
What to Expect During the Appointment
Prior to your appointment, you will have filled out your intake form and your medical history, as well as your consent form. This will allow me the opportunity to make sure there are no health issues, medications, supplements or treatments that can prevent us from doing the lip tattoo.
We will start our appointment with a consultation, where we will discuss your wants and needs and answer any questions you may still have. We will then take our before pictures. The design is the next step, I will outline the exterior of the lips to determine the shape we are going to give the lips. This step is very important and is the one that will allow us to agree on the shape that I will tattoo. Once you agree to the shape, I will custom mix the pigments to create the color we have discussed and begin the tattoo. Once the tattoo is done, I will take your after pictures. We will then go over the aftercare instructions and send you home with your aftercare products. You can expect your lips to be swollen right after the treatment for a few hours.
What to Expect During the Healing Period
The day of your treatment your lips will be swollen and feel sensitive and tight. It will be very important to be mindful of your lips with all food and drink, and plan to eat foods that can be eaten cleanly with a fork and knife that is not saucy or spicy. Only drink through a straw. The first day, the color will be very vibrant and then turn deeper by the end of the day. On days 2 and 3, the color will remain deep (or dark), and your lips will feel tight and dry. Around day 4 and 5 they will start to peel. The peeling usually ends around day 5 and 6, and then the lips are a little dry and flakey for the next couple of days. It takes at least 6 weeks for the color to stabilize in the lip and give a true healed result.
Aftercare
Immediately: Do not touch your lips. This is an open wound and could get infected. Swelling is normal after the procedure, you can ice your lips for 10 minutes per hour to help reduce swelling. Please wrap your icepack with a clean paper towel.
Day 1-2: Use the antiseptic towelettes provided to clean the lips the night of the treatment as well as the following morning and night. With clean hands, blot or gently wipe the towelettes onto lips. Only use the provided wipes, do not use water or any other cleanser for the first 48 hours.
Day 1-7: Your lips will feel dry, tight and grainy. Keep your lips hydrated at all times. Apply a very thin layer of the provided ointment to the lips with clean fingers throughout the day. Do not let the lips get dry. Do not apply too much ointment as it could cause fading of the color, a thin layer goes a long way. Be mindful of what and how you are eating and drinking (use a straw to drink everything and do not let food touch your lips) as the lips will be more sensitive and prone to infection until the scabs have flaked off. Do not let sweat or any other bodily fluids touch the lips. Do not use any other product on the lips (skin care products, cosmetics, make-up removers) during the healing period. Avoid all sources of heat (sauna, steam room, bath, etc.), bathing in seawater or swimming pools or hot tubs as well as any physical activity that may result in excessive sweating
Day 7-14: Do not use any alcohol based, petroleum based or mineral oil based products on the lips. Lips will feel dry, keep moisturizing them.
For 1 month: Do not expose your lips to the sun. You may wear a sunscreen on the lips once all scabs have fallen off on their own. Do not have facials, peels, laser treatments, hair removal or fillers in the area.
Never pick, scratch, rub your lips to remove the scabbing. Let it fall off on its own when it’s ready to avoid damaging the color and affecting color retention. Removing them prematurely may cause pigment loss or scarring.

With any of the lip pmu techniques, it is imperative to only tattoo the lip tissue and not any of the skin around it. These are 2 different types of skin tissue and will heal very differently. That being said, for many women, simply adding definition and enhancing the color of the natural lip will make them look bigger.
