How to prepare for your permanent makeup procedure

Instructions for all areas of permanent makeup

How you prepare for your cosmetic tattoo will be what sets us up to having a successful appointment. Not following pre-care instructions can lead to problems during the tattooing and poor healed results.

If you are taking any medication or supplements, please inform Joelle of ALL of them when you are booking your appointment.

  • No exposure to UV rays or tanning beds for 14 days PRIOR to your appointment.

  • No coffee or caffeine for 24 hours before treatment.

  • No alcohol for 48 hours before treatment.

  • Avoid taking Ibuprofen or Aspirin (unless medically necessary), Vitamin D and Niacin for 1 week before the treatment as they will thin the blood. Extra Strength Tylenol may be taken if needed.

  • Do not get any chemical peels, laser, IPL, or use retinol or AHAs for at least 4 weeks before your treatment .

  • Do not take fish oil, omegas or vitamine E for at least 4 weeks before your treatment.

  • Avoid exercising the day of your treatment.Please read through the aftercare instructions thoroughly and ensure that you can arrange your schedule accordingly.

  • Please advise Joelle of any previous permanent makeup or microblading in the area you would like to have treated. You will need to send a CLEAR, well lit (daylight) close up picture of the area to be treated to be sure you the area is ready to be worked on again.

Additional instructions for eyebrows

  • Before your appointment: Please tell Joelle about any medication or supplements you are taking. These may affect the outcome of your procedure. Look over after care instructions carefully and ensure that you can arrange your schedule accordingly. If you have previous permanent makeup or microblading in the area to be treated, please send a clear, close up and well-lit picture of it. Please note that you will be more sensitive 5 days before, during and 5 days after your menstrual cycle.

  • 4 weeks before: Do not take fish oil, Omegas or Vitamin E. Do not get any chemical peels, laser or IPL treatments or use retinol, AHAs or hydrocortisone.

  • 2 weeks before: NO exposure to UV rays or tanning beds, no Botox.

  • 1 week before: Avoid taking Vitamin D, Niacin (vitamin B3), Ibuprophen or aspirin (unless medically necessary) as they thin the blood. Extra strength Tylenol can be taken if needed. Do not pluck or wax the eyebrows.

  • 48 hours before: NO alcohol.

  • 24 hours before: NO coffee or caffeine.

  • Day of treatment: Avoid exercising the day of the treatment and please make sure to eat something before coming in for your appointment.

Additional instructions for eyeliner

  • Before your appointment: Please tell Joelle about any medication or supplements you are taking. These may affect the outcome of your procedure. Look over after care instructions carefully and ensure that you can arrange your schedule accordingly. If you have previous permanent makeup of the eyes, please send a clear, close up and well-lit picture of it. Please note that you will be more sensitive 5 days before, during and 5 days after your menstrual cycle. Cancel your appointment if you have had an eye injury, a stye, eye issues, or if you are suffering from conjunctivitis or have had it in the last 6 weeks before your appointment.

  • 3 months before: Do not use lash growth serums for 3-6 months before your appointment.

  • 1 month before: No fillers in and around the eye area. Do not get any chemical peels, laser or IPL treatments or use retinol, AHAs or hydrocortisone in and around the area. Do not take fish oil, Omegas or Vitamin E.

  • 2 weeks before: NO exposure to UV rays or tanning beds. If you have eyelash extensions, make sure your lashes have been removed for at least 2 weeks before your appointment and do not have a new set done until 3 weeks after your touch up appointment. Do not get Botox around the eye area

  • 1 week before: Avoid taking Vitamin D, Niacin (vitamin B3), Ibuprophen or aspirin (unless medically necessary) as they thin the blood. Extra strength Tylenol can be taken if needed. Do not get a lash lift.

  • 48 hours before: NO alcohol

  • 24 hours before: NO coffee or caffeine. Do not wear any eye makeup.

  • Day of treatment: Avoid exercising the day of the treatment and please make sure to eat something before coming in for your appointment. Do not wear any eye makeup. If you wear contact lenses, please wear glasses to the appointment and for 7-10 days after the treatment.

Additional instructions for lips

  • For anyone suffering from cold sores, it is your responsibility to obtain Valtrex before the procedure. This treatment can cause an outbreak in someone who has the virus. Start the dosage of 2 tablets the day before the treatment, 2 tablets per day for the next 3 days, or as advised by your Dr. or pharmacist. Treatment can not be done if you have a cold sore the day of the treatment until it has completely healed.

  • Do not have lip filler injections or Botox around the mouth area for 4 weeks before or after the treatment.

  • Exfoliate the lips for 5 days prior to treatment and keep lips constantly moisturized (coconut oil is a great choice) to prepare for treatment. Lips in poor condition can heal with poor pigmentation and uneven results.

Contraindications to all areas of permanent makeup

You CAN NOT have permanent makeup done if you are pregnant, breastfeeding or have any of the following conditions: hemophilia, immuno-compromised, epilepsy, HIV Aids, infectious diseases, Accutane use within the past 12 months, have had chemo or radiation for the past 6 weeks. No antibiotics before, during or after treatment during healing time.
